third shot drop

What is the third shot drop in pickleball?

Third shot drop

We've been asked several times by beginners why they should not advance to the kitchen line after serving. The reason is the rule, the rule says the ball has to hit the ground on the serve-return before playing it, which is hard or almost impossible to do from the kitchen line, so stay back after you serve, and try on your return to hit the ball close or inside the opponent's kitchen.

The third shot drop is the first shot that does not have to bounce.  Players should master the third shot drop, it's an important shot designed to get you to the net, and if you play regularly and have greater aspirations to compete, the third shot drop should be a big part of your game.

Typically, you should have a good understanding of the third shot drop within your first few games.

There are two types of third shots, Third Shot Drop and the Third Shot Drive.

We're asking our pickleball readers to share their best techniques for the third shot drop and third shot drive on our Blog.
